The BlackNave of War

The BlackNave started out as a gaming name in the good old days of Duke Nukem and continued through counter strike and subsequent games, it is my first name spelled backwards -Nave and back then my hair was still black (no executive highlights had appeared at the time) The name stuck and I used it with my first website in the early 2000's when I was into slot-cars and still had a large collection.

Going back a bit further, I grew up on Airfix and Matchbox kits before Matchbox got absorbed into Revell, Both my Grandfathers were in world war 2 (South African Army) in the desert and Italy, as a result, I grew up with an interest in military history (specifically world war 2). I had a bedroom full of airplane models hanging from the ceiling, tons of Airfix 1:72 figures. I hit the teenage years, everything got packed away in boxes and I never gave any of it another thought.

Years later I was called up for national service, while I was in the army, my stuff was given away and that appeared to be the end of that. Years later while going through a divorce I discovered some second hand kits for sale at a radio controlled aircraft shop, needing something to ward off the dark thoughts, I bought a kit, built it and returned and bought everything else they had and so the interest was reborn, A hobby shop opened up close by and I started adding to what I had and then put my credit card to good use online.

A friend of mine was busy painting up a Warhammer 40K army and I had my first taste of war gaming, I started buying my first Warhammer kits and then Max emigrated to New Zealand, I carried on collecting and someone from my church put me in touch with my daughters school principle who ran a wargaming club at the school.

We started with 20mm Rapid-Fire, played a bit of Crossfire and the moved to 15mm Flames of war, (There are pics of some of the games and bits and pieces on the blog). All the while keeping my 40K Space-marines and Orks ticking over in the background. Eugene has now moved to Singapore and I am still collecting my world war 2 stuff, I want to try the first world war as well as Team Yankee at some stage, (at this time I don't have anyone local to do Flames of war with) I have however met a guy who does Warhammer and does the most amazing figure painting (his Orks are on my blog and they are really good).

After many years of being relegated to the garage, I, now at last have my own war room inside the house (see the post) its is small but it is mine! Now the model work can start in earnest. Pleas keep checking back on the blog i plan to grow and improve and have a lot of fun.
