Rail2Road Model Train Layout July 2019

This is a layout that a friend bought, cut up into sections and transported up from the coast, which was a massive undertaking (see the Rail2Road page to get an idea of the size of this setup) if you have seen some of the earlier pics on the blog you can see the progress of the repair work. To put things into perspective, it is always easier to model from scratch, i.e. building up from a base and adding each layer on top of each other.

Repair work and matching someone else's techniques comes with its own set of issues. So this has been an interesting challenge. We are almost done with the repair work and ar now able to start improving and adding more detail onto the setup.

Step 1: Filling the gap. The middle section needs to be able to be lifted out to gain access to the track underneath

Step2: wood clue and beach sand for texture

 The rock doubles as a handle to lift the section up for access to the track underneath

 Step 3: The undercoat

Step 4: The first dressing, rough  grass (dyed sawdust for the correct rough texture)

Step 5: bushes trees and scrub

There is still some work to be done with the rock face above the brick retaining wall, adding bushes and fine detail.

In this pic below, the vegetation on the left has been redone, still planning on getting to the right side

In this picture, Chris has added a new tunnel mouth onto this section and made changes within the quarry.
The following pic shows the progression as we build it into the scene and blend the newer technique with the original model work.

 As the repair work and general fixing gets completed , we then work on the finer detail like the bushes, dust on the buildings posters adding further vegetation etc.
